DUPLO AND IBIS ANNOUNCE ALPHA SADDLE IN-LINE
18 May 2010

Following the recent launch of their new 'near-line' Alpha Saddle Stitcher, Duplo, in collaboration with IBIS Bindery Systems, will be launching the Alpha Saddle In-line to the HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press at Ipex 2010.

The in-line system will enable users to produce stitched books straight after print with no manual intervention and in one process at speeds of up to 12,000 books/hour.

The Alpha Saddle In-line is the result of the continuing technology partnership between Duplo and IBIS; a relationship which, according to Duplo Group Chairman Robin Greenhalgh, is proving to be extremely successful.

"With the Alpha we are combining the Duplo ethos of market-leading automated precision technology with IBIS' pedigree of high performance saddle stitching machines to produce a world leading finishing system. The interest already in the Alpha Saddle prior to Ipex has been staggering, and now we have a complementary in-line product to launch, we have such a wide range of options for many different types of print organisations."

The Alpha Saddle In-line will be available exclusively through the Duplo worldwide sales channel and is being launched with the new HP 7500 press and LRS 'PageReady' cutter/slitter/merger/stacker at the HP stand.

John Cracknell, Managing Director of IBIS Bindery Systems, believes the new launch will be timely at an exhibition which he believes will really see digital technology push the boundaries of print:

"The Alpha Saddle In-line embraces all of the benefits of digital printing, such as variable data and quick turnaround, and gives an extremely high standard of finish. The new system is ideal for personalised booklet production, or job runs of one, where the number of pages and page content in each booklet are continually changing. We have a great opportunity to launch the product on the largest stand of the show, at what I am sure is going to be an extremely innovative and thought provoking Ipex 2010."

The system allows the HP Indigo 7500 to run at full rated speed, including when producing 2-sheet (8 page) booklets and up to 200 page books in thickness. There is also an option for sheet gluing (ISG), for stronger, flatter and more easily recycled books.

The print engine feeds directly into the Alpha, where the sheets are collected, folded onto the saddle and stitched with Hohner heads. The books are then trimmed around the three edges and delivered on the book delivery conveyor. All set-up and adjustments are controlled centrally, with no need for a skilled finishing operator to run the machine.

Features of the in-line system include variable book thickness on-the-run, JDF control, barcode reading for variable data work, automatic book format adjustment and optional centre knife for 2-up book production.

"The supreme quality of the HP 7500, coupled with the feature-rich, heavy duty build of the Alpha means that we have created one of the most impressive end-to-end print and finishing lines in recent history," commented Greenhalgh. "I certainly think this product launch is right time, right place and a must see at Ipex 2010.

The new Alpha In-line can be seen along with the HP Indigo 7500 in hall 12, stand AB150.
